Triennale Event

“An adventure in a glance”
The William G. Congdon Foundation, in collaboration with the Milan Cultural Centre, on the tenth anniversary of the death of William Congdon, is holding an event on the great and now legendary era of Abstract Expressionism, of which he was a protagonist in the early 1950’s.
Tuesday, 11 November 2008 at 6.30pm
Milan Triennale
Viale Alemagna, 6 - Milan

A little over ten years ago the American painter William Congdon died on the outskirts of Milan. He was one of the protagonists in the early 1950’s of the great and now legendary era of Abstract Expressionism. After a life marked by sometimes dramatic events, Congdon left a vast artistic legacy still largely to be discovered and explored.
The conference  ‘An Adventure in a Glance’, a conversation with Claudio Olivieri, a painter who has been active on the Milanese and international art scene for decades with his own original and highly accomplished style, will be held at 6.15pm in the Hall of Honor of the  Milan Triennale.
The conversation will be guided by Elena Pontiggia, a professor at Brera Academy, author of various essays and catalogues, and also curator of a number of important exhibitions, and will focus on the artist in today’s world: from his self-awareness to his relationship with the artwork and the action of seeing, as well as with art institutions and the market.
One of the artist’s works will also be displayed in the hall, and two short video documentaries about William Congdon and Claudio Olivieri will be projected at the beginning and at the end of the event, respectively,.
